Architecture Form

Please read the following before submitting the below form.

**All proposed projects must meet the City of Scottsdale building code requirements: permits, if
applicable, must be obtained from the City of Scottsdale and sent to the Architecture Committee before
the start of any approved project **

Please check one of the following:

Landscape Modification: Requires submission of the following:

  • Landscape plans for the front yard including proposed locations for modification
  • All plant types, sizes and quantities, as well as granite color and size, if applicable.
  • Current photos of actual areas proposed for modifications. Please note the following stipulations regarding landscaping:
    • Landscape contractor signage is not permitted.
    • No grade changes that adversely affect drainage are permitted.

Swimming Pool / Spa: Requires the submission of the following:

  • Detailed drawing of the swimming pool/spa. All dimensions must be shown.
  • Site plan indicating measurements, proposed elevations, existing grade elevations, backwash pit
    area.
  •  Pool equipment may not be attached to any common wall. A “pony” wall, to obscure hoses, filter,
    pump, etc., must be installed.

Please note these common stipulations regarding a pool or spa:

  • Pool filter backwashing must be contained on the property, most often using the sewer clean-out.
    Backwashing into any common area, or the street, IS NOT PERMITTED
  • Pool company signage is not permitted unless approved by the Committee, for the period of active
    construction.
  • No grade changes are permitted which adversely affect drainage.

Miscellaneous Items

Barbeque pit, exterior fireplace, playground set, permanent or portable awnings, gazebo, storage shed, exterior painting, etc.: Requires submission of the following:

  • Any miscellaneous items, like all other Architecture change plans, that are visible to neighboring property or public view, require a completed “Disclosure to neighboring/adjacent owners” form.
  • Exterior paint color changes are chosen from existing approved color palate provided by Architecture Committee – these colors are posted on the Briarwood VI website: Click Here.
  • A site plan with all dimensions and measurements must be submitted for any proposed structural modification.
  • Current photographs that depict the actual areas being proposed for modification, or the proposed added structure.
  • Awnings and any other exterior window covers or shades require a fabric sample and product photo

Home Modification: Requires the submission of the following:

  • Detailed site plan and elevations, indicating measurements for front, rear and side yards of the home and photos of the exterior areas that will be modified. (Please note that no separate structure is permitted on a lot in addition to the home and private garage or carport).
  • A separate list – with photos – of the following exterior building materials: (a) roof tile (b) exterior wall stucco type (c) exterior paint color (from approved list) (d) Other 
  • A signed and completed neighboring/adjacent owners Disclosure form.
  • Identified access point to the property and staging area for construction materials.
  • When any home modification project is completed, the front yard must be returned to its original appearance (unless modified through a landscape change plan).

Please note these common stipulations regarding home modifications:

  • All construction debris is to be contained in a dumpster on a daily basis and removed on a weekly basis.
  • The contractor is obligated to ensure the street is kept clean and free of debris at all times.
  • Contractor signage is not permitted.
  • Construction may not commence before 7:00 AM and must cease at 5:00 PM Monday – Saturday 
  • No construction permitted on Sunday or observed Holidays.
  • Construction must meet City of Scottsdale building permit requirements: applicable permits must be obtained prior to start of approved project, and a copy sent to the Architecture Committee when the permit is obtained.

Submission of this change plan does not constitute approval for the proposed project.

Homeowners are responsible for verifying whether or not this application has been approved prior to commending modifications, as they CANNOT begin until HOA has reviewed and approved an application. Written notification of the Committee’s decision will be provided to the applicant. Approval of a project is based on its aesthetics in relation to its surroundings. Such approval will not constitute an approval, ratification, or endorsement of the quality, architectural or engineering soundness of the proposed improvements. Neither the Architecture or Landscape Committee, nor the Board of Directors, shall have any liability for any defects in plans, specifications or improvements to a lot and/or home.

I have read this information and understand the following:

My submission will be reviewed by the Briarwood VI HOA Architecture Committee for approval. I will receive written notification of the Committee’s decision within thirty (30) days of the review and, that in addition to all stipulations required by Briarwood VI HOA, I am also required to meet all regulations and stipulations established by the City of Scottsdale, Maricopa County and the State of Arizona. The Committee will process this application as quickly as possible; however, incomplete information may cause delays in the processing of documents at all times, and that the burden to ascertain if approval has or has not been given for my proposed project is placed upon me, before I begin any modification. I agree to pay any and all costs of enforcement incurred by the Briarwood VI HOA if I fail to meet the standards established by the Architecture Committee and/ or the Board of Directors.

If this project is not started within ninety (90) days of approval, an extension must be requested and granted, or the architectural change plan becomes void. It must then be re-submitted to the Architecture Committee. If the project is not completed within ninety (90) days of the projected completion date, the Committee reserves the right to rescind and/or modify the original approval.
